How does Pine View Middle School support great behavior?
We know that academics and behavior are closely linked. Students struggle to learn when their behavior, and those around them is distracting. For this reason, PVMS is committed to supporting students by creating systems and partnerships that all point towards great choices.
What does PBIS mean and what does it look like at PVMS?
Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS) is a nation wide structure that helps point students towards the right choices. This means we are explicit about our expectations and we intervene when kids do and don’t make the wisest decisions. For those who break expectations, we have systems to coach them back into the right direction. However, when kids DO meet our expectations, we reward those great decisions. How do we coach towards great behavior?
There are times that all kids need to be reminded of what the right choices look like. At these times, we have to re-teach the expectations and give them time to reflect on them. Check out this great reflection tool some teachers use to do just that. For some, that’s enough to get back on the right track. However there are other times that they need more structured and rigorous re-teaching. At PVMS, each teacher is equipped to intervene based on our schoolwide expectations.
Is this bullying?
The way teenagers treat each other is a definite concern in today’s culture. The concept of “bullying” is a common conversation piece with many families. While this term has meant many things over the years, this chart might help as you navigate your child’s situation.

How can I partner with PVMS to support great behavior?
